"All of the staff are amazing, they really care about us and the days were a flash. Next year I'll be an LIT because I can't stand to stay away from here!" Anonymous 2012 Camper Survey

Teen Leadership

Camp Mendocino has two programs for Teens:

Leaders in Training Program

Camp to College Program (C2C)

Leaders in Training

The application period for the 2016 LIT program is CLOSED. Check back in February 2017 for next year's application.

The Leaders in Training program is a job readiness program designed to offer teens exposure to job readiness skill sets, as well as life skills, all while having fun and building relationships in the redwood forest! The program offers a variety of teen leadership activities designed to develop or enhance skills like communication, conflict management, time management, basic youth development, money management, and career preparation.

Participants in the program will support adult staff, run the dining hall, and have the opportunity to shadow a wide range of positions throughout Camp. This program offers teens the opportunity to gain important skills while accessing nature on a whole new level. They will be leaders in the Camp community, role models to younger campers, and get to develop themselves as young adults. The LIT team embodies an extraordinary work ethic, professionalism, motivation, teamwork, responsibility, and the amazing ability to be role models. If this sounds like you, make sure to apply today!

Important information to know:

Leaders in Training are not employees of Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco or Camp Mendocino, but rather are participants in a teen program. The LIT program is an opportunity to gain new skills in a fun and engaging environment with the possibility of earning a small stipend dependent on each LIT's performance.

This is a highly selective program; comprised of only the most qualified and motivated teens. LITs are highly valued at Camp Mendocino and hold a great deal of responsibility. This opportunity is beneficial to teens as they navigate life after high school. Unfortunately, due to the popularity of this program not every applicant will be selected to participate in the program. Former LITs must apply and are not guaranteed a place. Typically only 60% of applicants ultimately earn a spot in the LIT program.

LITs are placed in sessions based on availability and what is best for Camp. So make sure to let us know what sessions you are available for. If there is only one session there is a chance you will not get it.

Camp to College Program (C2C)

The Camp2College program, a year-round program for teens, celebrates its 4th year in 2016! C2C is a program for teens that excelled in the Leaders in Training (LIT) Program, preparing them for a post-secondary education. The program focuses on their future and looks to assist in preparing them for next stage of their lives.

The C2C program provides Camp Mendocino teens with educational and professional opportunities both inside and out of Boys & Girls Club of San Francisco. Teens attend monthly workshops covering topics ranging from college applications to transcript evaluations to different careers in non-profits organizations. Teens also have access to Camp staff as a support system, as well as tutoring opportunities.

In addition to furthering their academic careers, teens learn the value of volunteerism though service projects at Camp Mendocino and participate in other opportunities in the Bay area. The Camp2College (C2C) program strives to develop our young teens into the future leaders of tomorrow.

Highest achieving LITs are hand selected to participate in this program.
